ICCBBA

The Committee for Commonality in Blood Banking Automation (CCBBA) was formed in 1974 to standardize and automate how blood and blood product information is recorded and how blood products are traced from donor to recipient. As these standardization efforts expanded internationally, the CCBBA changed its name to International Council for Commonality in Blood Bank Automation (ICCBBA). The organization is based in Redlands, California.

ICCBBA publishes and maintains the ISBT 128 labeling standard that is currently in use worldwide for identifying, coding, and labeling medical products of human origin (including blood, cells, tissue, milk, plasma, organs, and so on). Because ISBT 128 is not in the public domain, organizations that want to use it must register with the ICCBBA and pay an annual fee.

In 2014, ICCBBA became affiliated with the World Health Organization (WHO).
