International ISMN Agency

The International ISMN Agency, based in Berlin, coordinates and manages the worldwide use of the International Standard Music Number (ISMN) system and acts as the registration authority for the ISO 10957 standard that regulates ISMNs. It also allocates publisher identifiers to the various national agencies and maintains the ISMN Users' Manual. Currently, 62 countries are members of the International ISMN Agency network. For more information, refer to www.ismn-international.org/international.html.

In the US, the national agency that assigns identifiers to publishers and individual ISMNs to published items is the US ISMN Agency, which is overseen by the US Library of Congress. For more information, refer to www.loc.gov/ismn/.
