Barcode Guide
Royal Mail 4-State Mailmark
The Royal Mail 4-State Mailmark barcode was developed by Royal Mail of the United Kingdom. It is similar to the Royal Mail 4-State Customer Barcode (CBC) but uses defined data content and does not include extra space for customer-defined content. Mailmark codes are added to mail pieces so that the Mailmark options of the Retail and Network Access product portfolios can be used.
The following variants are available:
-
Mailmark barcode L: Encodes 26 characters and is used for machine-readable Low Sort and Unsorted Retail and Access 70 services
-
Mailmark barcode C: Encodes 22 characters and is used for consolidated machine-readable Low Sort Retail and Access 70 services
Both Mailmark variants use a unique identifier and encode postcode and delivery point information. Mailmark symbols cannot be used if information is not available for at least the outward postcode.
The Mailmark symbology is defined in Royal Mail Mailmark®: Mailmark Barcode Definition Document, which is published by Royal Mail.
