NIST
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory agency of the United States Department of Commerce that develops measurement standards. Between its founding in 1901 and 1988, it was known as the National Bureau of Standards.
NIST oversees the use of barcode technology in such areas as digital security for the US Department of Defense, scientific research, and forensic science, including evidence management and tracking for law enforcement.
